History

Established in 1976, the United States Association for the Blind Athletes was created to provide serious competitive and recreational activities for youth and adults who are visually impaired.  These activities filled the gap for people who were either beyond the scope of opportunities provided at the junior high and high-school level, or who had graduated and had nowhere to compete or those athletes who excelled to the point of eligibility for national and international venues such as the Paralympics.  Missouri Chapter of the USABA was chartered in 1981.   As a chapter we have successfully provided an avenue for individuals who are blind and visually Impaired the opportunity to participate in competitive and recreational sports. We also have provided opportunities for youth who may never have had the chance to excel in sports because of the lack of exposure/opportunity.
